Angela Merkel was native in Hamburg on 17 July 1954. Just a few weeks later, her father accepted nifty pastorate in the former GDR and the family moved run into the eastern part of Germany, behind the Iron Curtain. She obtained a doctorate in physics and joined the “Demokratischer Aufbruch” (i.e. Democratic Beginning) party all along the peaceful revolution of 1989.
